Alien in my Window

I found this dried out little body on my windowsill next to the basil plants.  Ashes to ashes, little alien.

A Leaf-footed bug?

Wonder who my visitor is. A Western Conifer Seed bug? It's a windy, hazy mid-November day. I put him/her outside in a flower pot, out of the wind.

A Sparrowhawk!

I was in the right place at the right time to see a beautiful native bird stopping for a rest in a tree. I'm no expert and not sure, but I think this is an American Kestral, or Sparrowhawk. (Ironic that I'm rereading A Wizard of Earthsea...)
