2 Things Challenge: Local/Hot

These are some photos I took back in June while visiting The Wild Animal Sanctuary, in Keenesburg, Colorado.  Pretty local, it's about a half hour drive from me.  Please check out their website by clicking the highlighted name, they're doing amazing things for endangered, abused, and abandoned larger predators.

It was a hot, dry day with hardly any breeze. Everyone was trying to snooze in the shade.  This was one of the wolf dens.  I wasn't anywhere near close to any of these animals, my camera has an awesome zoom feature.

Almost everyone made it to the shade before siesta time kicked in.

Some decided to go for a dip.

...or to catch what little breeze there was.

And others decided to snooze belly up.

2 Things Challenge: Day/Ends

DAY/ENDS: The day ends peacefully on the high desert plain.

(This photo was taken in Erie, Colorado.)

2 Things Challenge: Portrait/Round

Well, the photo I first had in mind for this week's challenge no longer exists.  Oops.  It was a pic of an oval framed portrait of Elizabeth I, that I took at the Denver Art Museum.  Wish I could remember the artist's name.  Word to the wise, back up your data to an external hard drive AND online somewhere, because external hard drives will break down on you.  This is probably a very obvious thing to do, to those who are more plugged in than I am.

Oh well, I learn from my mistakes.  For this week's challenge, I'd like to share a family photo taken back in late April while I was in Ohio.  I got to be in town for my da's birthday celebration, which included dinner at the Pufferbelly and a Leon Redbone concert.

I'm my father's child.  Can you tell?

2 Things Challenge: Flat/Flagpole

FLAT (and yummy!): This is a piece of paper thin roasted Korean seaweed snack I got at the Natural Grocer's, comes in a little pack like a bag of potato chips. The type of seaweed itself is called 'kim' in Korean and 'nori' in Japanese. Seaweed chips! I had some in miso soup for lunch and ate the rest as is. They remind me of kale chips my mom makes.

FLAGPOLE: This is the always empty flagpole in the parking lot of the next door K-Mart. Always empty, even on patriotic occasions.

2 Things Challenge: Value/New

I value the people in my life.

Every single one of them.

New clouds coming in behind the storm.

While my sister was visiting in July, we drove up to the Boulder Chautauqua and discovered a new hiking trail and a new view.

These images are from last night at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, we heard The Avett Brothers.  The weather was PERFECT.

2 Things Challenge: Wooden/Word

Wooden/Word: My mother-in-law has a friend that does wood carving.  She brought me this when they visited last November.

2 Things Challenge: Song/Sweet

SONG: Leon Redbone in my interpretation again this week, just for you Eeyore.  I took this video at the Kent Stage in Ohio last month, April 27th.

SWEET: Quick and easy coffee cake I made while visiting my folks in Ohio, earlier this month.  I used the recipe from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook.  Great if you have about a half hour before having guests stop by, took about 5 minutes to throw together and 20 minutes to bake.  Cinnamony, with a nice crumb to it.

2 Things Challenge: Round/Sharp

ROUND: A peony bud.

SHARP: Leon Redbone, at the Kent Stage on April 27th.

2 Things Challenge: Eyes/Yellow

EYES: Sleepy eyes.

Curious eyes.

More sleepy eyes.

YELLOW: My reading pillow.

Spring!

It makes me sad that people use terrible chemicals to kill dandelions. If I had a yard, I'd let the dandelions take over! They're cheerful flowers and their greens are tasty, to humans and bun-folk.

2 Things Challenge: Forsaken/Empty

FORSAKEN/EMPTY: These photos were taken back in October, at an open space a few miles down the road. I'm not sure who's home this was, but I don't think they've lived here for sometime. I don't think these are abandoned prairie dog holes, but I could be wrong.

2 Things Challenge: Holiday Challenge! Soft/Brilliant

SOFT: This is Glacier. She is a Jersey Wooley bunny who resides at the Bunny Barn where I do volunteer work. She was part of a large confiscation from an animal hoarder this past summer. Here she is snoozing after a big meal of pellets and veggies. She's still a little spooked by human hands coming into her space, but I moved slowly and she let me pet her after I took this photo. Soooo soft!

BRILLIANT: This photo is from The Butterfly Pavilion. I love this scarlet orange color. But I'm not sure what this fellow is. CLICK HERE and check out the different kinds. What do you think it is?

2 Things Challenge: Apples/Art

APPLES: Mm, pink lady apples.

ART: My parents are visiting this weekend from Ohio. We spent Saturday afternoon checking out the Denver Art Museum. I hadn't been there since we went to see the King Tut exhibit last year.

2 Things Challenge: Full/Feminine

FULL: The house and yard were overflowing with friends and family on my wedding day in September.

The amphitheater at Red Rocks was FULL of people the day after Thanksgiving.

FEMININE: I felt very feminine at my wedding...

...with fresh fall flowers in my hair.

*Both photos of the wedding ceremony were taken by my friend, Megan Blymiller.

2 Things Challenge: Card/Blue

CARD: A Halloween card from my best friend.

BLUE: Found this pic of a cute time traveller with his ship over at MARTY'S place.

2 Things Challenge: Wet/Hot

WET: Romeo and I stopped at the pond of an open space park in Thornton. Romeo wanted to go for a dip, but I thought there was too much algae for puppy swimming.

HOT: The paper weight Shaun brought me back from Phoenix reminds me of our visit there. Only the scorpions seemed unaffected by the intense desert heat.

2 Things Challenge: Sky/Plus

SKY: Colorado morning sky. The moon is getting ready for bed.

The Rocky Mountains, on a fall afternoon.

Northeast Ohio sunset, in late September.

PLUS: We went to hear Ziggy Marley earlier this month!
